I’m an educator and spiritual counselor, with decades of experience building tight-knit communities, bringing a sense of joy to serious text study, and guiding families through life milestones.
I’m based at The Leffell School in Westchester County, New York, serving as part-time Morah Ruchanit (Spiritual Advisor) and Talmud faculty. I love working with high school students. They are endlessly entertaining, and I can actually watch their brains work! It’s the best…
But that’s just a part of my life’s work. I love teaching any text, teaching to people of all ages, and designing learning and lifecycle events in all sorts of personalized ways. I have been studying with adult women’s groups for almost 20 years, I teach online courses in all sorts of subjects, and I bring my Torah on the road whenever possible.
One of my favorite moments of the year is Ne’ilah at the Town and Village High Holiday community service, which I’ve been co-leading with Beth Mann for over 25 years. Town and Village Synagogue in downtown Manhattan holds a special place in my heart, as that’s where I started my career as Assistant Rabbi.
Some of my resume: I’m a JTS-ordained rabbi and Wexner Fellow, I got my BA from Harvard College, where I studied American History and Literature. (Wrote my senior thesis on the stereotype of the Jewish American Princess in American Jewish History. YIKES, there are some real antisemitic tropes that don’t really go away.)
My community-building work has taken me around the United States—including work with native Alaskans—as well as Europe, Russia, India, and Israel. I wrote a few chapters for Let’s Go: England and Wales (remember those travel guides?) and I also have a chapter in The Observant Life: The Wisdom of Conservative Judaism for Contemporary Jews.
My dad, Rabbi Henry Adler Sosland, z’l, really believed was that we should always be learning and growing. So– honoring my dad– I’m trying to learn and grow, always keeping a “project” going. Right now, I’m working through the Talmud, a page a day (or more like, many pages in one day whenever I catch up!), hoping to complete the Daf Yomi cycle in Jerusalem June 2027. This blog is also part of that project: a place where I can share what I’m working on… and invite you to come along, too. Let’s connect!
